I have a bad exhaust leak, its pretty loud. I've tightened all the manifolds and exhaust pipes real well, but it still makes noise. Almost sounds like it is coming from under the valve covers.
I am worried that my timing chain is off so the cam is not closing the exhaust ports when it is supposed to??
I also failed the emissions test witih 6% CO at 2500, rpm. It had .3% at idle.
Have your rechecked the valve adjustment? You say "coming from valve covers", is it happening on both sides? What cam did you install? Did you install headers as well? Why are you concerned about the timing chain? If the install concerns you (of the timing chain) you might be on to something. Good luck with your truck, hopefully these fellows can point you in the right direction
Let me guess...it is the passenger side right? DOes it get louder under load?
if so tightening the manifold won't fix the problem....remove exh manifold...get it surfaced $25, get new exh gasket and reinstall (use antisieze on bolts)
and torque to spec....
the tick should be gone.
Make it easy on yerself and remove the front tire and wheel well.....disconnect the air pump and move the hard diverter valve lines up to access the manifold.
