Another silly question

Am about to put the oil pan back on a 239. I have the upper and lower rope main seals on the back of the crankshaft, but my question, is there a rope seal for the front of the oil pan, the part where the oil pan sets on the front shaft of the crankshaft. I have set the oil pan on and cannot figure how it seals.

There is a set of rope seals on the front as well. Half goes in a flange on the front of the oil pan, the other half goes in a groove on the timing gear cover.

PS: no question is silly if you're looking for an answer.

I used to tell my students the only silly or stupid question is the one not asked.

No double wall slots

On my oil pan and pump there are just flat spots where I presume the rope seals go in respect to your pics showing an inner wall to hold the seal. What do i do, use some sort of adhesive to hole the seal in place prior to bolting it down? Pic one is looking at the bottom of the pump showing just the flat spot. Pic 2 is the front slot of the oil pan showing just another flat area to put the rope seal in. Pic 3 is just another view of the bottom of the pump.

The original seals are still in place. Definitely in the timing gear cover. It's not as clear, but it looks like it's in the oil pan as well.

They are just carefully pried out with a small screwdriver.
Edit: I added a picture at the bottom showing the seal partially removed. I don't have a spare oil pan, but the detail is pretty much the same.

"A" is the seals contact surface with crank "B" is the end of the rope seal

Not as clear a picture, but it looks to be the same

I thank you for helping, i get the bonehead of the year award for this one. Went to a rebuilder and he said see the change in color? That means that the seals are still in.
Sorry for the inconvience.
