EMERGENCY- a side of my steering linkage popped off. Somehow, don’t know wtf happened. I’m stranded in a outlet mall parking lot. Need to know the threading size of this bolt so I can get a replacement to make it home 02 7.3

looks like you picked up something and it hit the nut to make it loose. your rim has some severe gouges in it and tire looks like it took some damage too
i see rust on the threads, i dont think the nut was on there for a while and what ever was in there popped the taper off

I’ve had the truck for over 50k miles. Never touched that area other than shooting some grease in there. You must be right
I've NEVER seen one of those fasteners come off on their own unless it was never tightened down in the first place, or this truck was involved in a dispute with the former owner and someone did some work on it in the middle of the night.
At this point, check to see if the hole for the tie rod end in the knuckle has been wallowed out from the tie rod end wobbling. If it is, no amount of tightening a nut on it will keep it from moving around.
Don’t tie rod ends come with new nuts? Just an idea if you’re having trouble finding a new castle nut. They aren’t typically that expensive (although much more than just a nut). You could use the nut from the new tie rod and throw the new end in the spare parts box.
Just by looking at it looks like it hasn't had a nut on there for a while judging by all the rust on the threads. You can get away by using loctite, or if the nut that you installed has that nylon locking threads.
