I have a 2000 XLT with a 6-SOHC. Heres the problem. Sometimes the truck stalls as soon as I start it when i take my foot off then gas. I start to drive by keeping pressure on the gas while breaking. Even when Im traveling at speeds of 50+, if I take my foot completely off the gas, the tach goes to 0, the truck stalls, and I lose all power. However, if I drive a long distance on a highway where I dont have to break for a while, the problem seem to go away. It also usually only happen when I have a 1/4 tank of fuel or lower and once I get gas, it usually goes away after driving for a while. This has been happening for about 2 months and it comes and goes, but happens usually when fuel is low. I recently changed the fuel filter and it didn't help. Im now thinking IAC valve. Any help?????? Is it the fuel pump or a sensor? If you could haed me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. You guys on this site have helped me so much in the past.
It could be either the IAC or the fuel pressure regulator. Check the sticky at the top of the forum. It's a great post on checking the IAC. Also, check to see if the computer is thowing any codes. If it is, then it could help point you in the direction of the problem. Keep us updated on what you find.
If it only happens when there is less then a quarter tank of gas, does it make sense that its the IAC valve? My X has always run at about 500-600 RPMs at idle in gear, when I start the truck, the rpms go to about 1000 then dip down until its about to stall and then suddenly surge up to normal. Any advce......
try cleaning your iac valve also try some fuel system cleaner also check/clean the contacts on the fuel pump relay also did you have the recalls fixed on the intake manifold
I cleaned the IAC today and no change. I am dropping the truck off tomorrow to get the tensioner and intake manifold gasket fixed. Could that be the problem?
just got the truck back, it didnt help. I orderd an IAC to put in and hopefully it does the trick. If not, I dont know what to do next. Any suggestions?????
I having the same symptoms with my 91 Explorer. Ive changed the fuel pump relay, filter, and cleaned the IAC thoroughly but the problems still exist. I plan on changing the fuel pump this weekend and hoping that works. Good luck!
