Long time reader, but first time posting for info.
I got this 2008 F350 CC4x4 Lariat with the 6.4 and 221000 miles from a friend. He was the original owner. it went into limp mode on him, & some shop he dealt with told him it needed an engine. A little bit of diagnostics & I found cyl1 intake rocker arm was broken. I replaced all the rocker arms, push rods & valve bridges on both sides. Runs great now. In the process of the work I found, the front seal is leaking pretty bad, & pulled the water pump, & there is some cavitation damage. SO, I am getting ready to do the front cover along with a lot of other Maintenace items, e.g. replace the radiator (its leaking) intercooler hoses, radiator hoses.
Here's my questions:
Has any used IPR to rebuild their front cover?
Feedback and info on:
Melling oil pump, good or bad?
What brand of intake hose?
best vendor to buy parts from
How can you tell the upgraded radiator hoses? 2 o-rings?
I've been around the block for awhile and the consensus in the forums from the most educated point to staying with OEM fomoco parts.
Sure they're pricey, but how many times do you want to try this or that.
Shaving costs by going outside does feel good from the onset. Long term effect of getting OEM will keep your sphincter from rupturing on long trips. Well worth it IMHO.

I got it. but it seems the front cover is out of stock, per my local Ford Dealer. Can seem to find the OEM oil pump, even Rock Auto is out of stock. As for the CAC hoses, i was looking for aftermarket, they seem to be better than OEM.. Thank for the reply. NT
The front cover can be weld buildup and machined repaired if you have a local machine shop willing to do the work (the good machine shops around here have such a backlog of high paying work that they often turn down smaller projects like this, maybe different in your area).
As for the double o-ring hose ends, the ones with double o-rings hose ends are a different color that than the single o-ring. One is white and the the other black, don't remember which one is which off the top of my head, just look at the one you have now, if its a single o-ring and black, then the double o-ring one will be white or vice versa.
The updated/ double o-ring hoses are part numbers AC3Z-8260-A for the upper hose and AC3Z-8286-A for the lower hose.
As for where to buy parts, well,,,the 6.4 years have kind of been forgotten about by the aftermarket (only three model years and they were/ are kinda big POS engines anyway). So AFAIK there is no one good single place to get parts from, just have to dig around the internet.
-Melling is a good oil pump .
-Mishimoto makes a good set of intake hoses or boots as they're most often called ( not to mention a good radiator with a good warranty).

Thanks for responding. IPR Research does the front cover rebuilds, but I have tried to call to get a lead time once they receive mine. haven't got a call back. I will look into the mishimoto intake boots.
If you're replacing the radiator with any type you either need a front frame hitch or Mischimoto's radiator core support brace to the tune of $400 or ANY radiator replacement will break as well from radiator core support flex.

thanks. didn't know a frame hitch would do the same as the Mishimoto brace.
I had a full Buckstop bumper with an integrated front hitch on an 08 F350 (bumper was 1/4 inch gusseted plate steel, heavy as all heck), still popped a leak in the end tank of the stock radiator after a little ,exuberate, pulling in 4x4 low trying to get a tree stump out. Bit the bullet and put a version2 Mishimoto radiator in it. That radiator was still in the truck when I sold it.
I personally think the crappy body mounts under the rad support do more to cause the radiator end tanks to leak than any frame twisting the front receiver hitch would prevent. I also eventually replaced the body mounts , twice, don't buy the Dorman ones unless you want to replace the mounts again a year later.

Front cover &/ oil pump are on nation backorder, with no eta. Found quite a few lists for the parts, but when I called, they didn't have it in stock. I have tried to find the Melling oil pump as an alternative, out of stock everywhere. I did call IPR Research, they can make the repairs to the front cover for $325. I am probably just go that route, and the person I talked to at IPR, said they can check out the oil pump, to confirm it's still within spec.
so, just an update
bought the mishimoto radiator brace off of amazon, $405 shipped. latest problem; I had a local rad shop try to clean out the intercooler ( it had a lot of oil in it) previous owner had the turbo replaced about 10000 miles ago. Intercooler had leak. IPR is making the repairs to the front cover.
I am installing a coolant filter set up, Is it ok to make the inlet line connection on the heater return line, on the drivers side?
Sure ,you can make the coolant filter supply wherever you want along the heater core return (assuming you're returning the filtered coolant to the degas bottle anyway).

What happened to the Dorman mounts after a year and what did you replace them with?
I mentioned the front hitch as I saw posts here noting no radiator breakage after installing it.
About when was the version 2 Mishimoto radiator released and do you know how to identify it, including its differences?

Is this a premade kit or self built? I ask as typically the premade kits tell you where to splice. Mine comes off the small lines atop the radiator shroud.
