I have the V8 flathead and 3 speed floor shifted tranny that had been in my 49F1. The PO claimed it needs a sleeve. I will never use these. What is the value of these? Thanks for great website?
If it needs a sleeve (how was that determined if it isn't already in pieces???), the whole thing should be rebuilt (if it even is a viable candidate to be rebuilt). Seems like what you have amounts to a core. In this area, that's a few hundred depending upon how complete the long block is and if it is outfitted as an 8BA or 8RT engine. Things get a little more exciting if it has the larger 255 Mercury components. Recent 8RT long block cores I purchased were $200-250.
As for the transmission, knowing the gearing that is installed and which of the light or heavy duty editions you are dealing with can make a difference as well as overall condition. Being that the engine is used up, it would be safe to assume the transmission also could use attention, so again, probably core value of a very few hundred.
Also keep in mind that any transportation logistics eat significantly in to any value the purchaser will be able to obtain on the deal when compared to just getting a fresh rebuild engine and/or trans dropped off. At least this is my take on how I see things.
