So just behind the gas tank is this 'box', maybe a junction box of some sort?
Anyway, I lost a very large nut in there and wonder if I have to retrieve it to prevent damage?
It might pop out on its own on a bumpy road eventually.
It in the middle of this pic...
I was just under my new truck the other day and wondering the same thing. Based on the lines to & from it, it seems to be part of the fuel vapor system.
Is this on the '00, the '22, or both? I'm presuming the '00 since the fellow with the '02 chimed in. I can't imagine it's anything with moving parts in it, and I wouldn't worry about the nut, but I was also going to make a joke about hiding your weed in there.
[EDIT]: An aside, The Hot Chick came out in 2002, making this joke about as old as these trucks.
I didn't think it was that obscure; I'd of felt better had you just not found it funny, but I don't get to pick how my references land, or rather don't.
No matter, I gave myself a chuckle, and really I'm my own target audience.
That's the EGR canister, the nut you dropped is in between the canister and the skid/protection plate. It's not going to hurt anything while it's up in there but once it rattles out of there at highway speeds it'll damage the guys nice new 2023 F350 that he just bought, please make an attempt to get it out.
Thanks in advance from someone who replaced 5 windshields in the past 8 years.

I will try harder, mostly because it is a special grade 8 flanged nut that might be hard to find locally. 210 ft-lb is the torque spec for this 5/8-11 nut/bolt combo.
I find that right after I replace a windshield is when the next rock comes out of nowhere...lol
Yeah, I tried everything but had to drop that box this morning. 4 screws, 13mm socket. Shook it loose and used the skinny magnet...
Now my 5th wheel rails are torqued down.
