I have a 2013 5.0 SuperCrew FX2, 5.0 engine, 117k miles. Driving at 75 MPH dash lit up as head temperature overheating. Immediately pulled over, and when I stepped out, the entire left side over truck was wet. I assumed I had blown a coolant hose. When I opened the hood, I realized it wasn't coolant, it was oil. Towed it home, and unloading it, it ran fine. It took 3 quarts of oil to bring it back up to level. I cleaned the engine hoping to see where it was coming from but no indication. Changed oil filter to see if maybe blew the seal, but no. There is indication of some water in the oil. Small amount of oil residue showing in coolant overflow tank, just on inside of lid.
I am thinking maybe blown head gasket, oil going into the coolant with oil pressure forcing it out of the coolant overflow.
Now trying to decide how to attack this. Try replacing head gaskets, but worried if the heads are warped, or replacement engine, whether used, or remanufactured. It's a nice truck, used on weekends, and for things around the house. I am going to have to pay someone to do the work as I don't have anywhere to work on it, or the time as I travel during the week.
Any suggestions? Anyone else had anything like this happen?
Did you do the last oil change yourself? I have a 2013 and it requires 7.7 quarts of oil which is a lot by many engine standards. Our 2019 5.0 requires 8.8 quarts! Your truck could have been underfilled at last oil change.
