Many of the repair procedures in Ford's own factory manuals warn against re-using certain fasteners such as tie rod end nuts, pinch-clamp bolts, spring clips, etc, etc. Yet, when you go to the Ford parts department to try and purchase these items - the very ones supposedly being taken off during routine maintenance procedures in their own shop - they are always special order items. Often, while I stand there, the parts department will call other Ford dealers to see if they have any, but with similar results - no one carries these items.
Is this just a local abberation or have others noticed the same thing? If there are any Ford service techs out there, I would be interested in hearing about how closely those repair procedures are being followed.
