As long as we have fractional reserve banking people will be able to overextended far beyond what should be reasonable. Being in the military I was forced to take finance classes as a private because there are so many privates who have never had a job and get approved for a brand new vehicle with 20+% interest
During my pre-deployment finance brief, the presenter said we should invest in crypto and couldn't answer basic questions about TSP.
There's a reason why they are doing what they are doing... and not working as a quant at a hedge fund.
what a joke...10+ ft lbs torque...f150s still have more power
Just came from a 2018 F-150 5.0L CCSB (395 hp / 400 lb-ft)
Now 2022 F-250 7.3L CCSB (430 hp / 475 lb-ft).
The 5.0L pulled my ~7000 lb travel trailer okay.
The 7.3L pulls MUCH better. A huge change is the stability.
I understand the 3.5L EcoBoost or PowerBoost option have way more power vs 7.3L....BUT stability still wouldn't be there compared to 3/4 ton truck.

Luckily I had a TSP brief after basic training from someone who worked at the TSP. The people who offered all of the finance briefs I attended were not so great though. One of them sounded like he was being payed by Dave Ramsey to sell his books.
Right? The second I click the 7.3 option the price jumps almost 7 grand and you are forced into painted bumpers and stupid black wheels along with safety nannies like auto braking and BLISS $1200 each taillights with radar. Exactly the crap one used to be able to avoid by ordering the XL/STX.
I was seriously considering ordering a truck since I did not get what I ordered in '22. Given what I have seen regarding options, the '23 has less appeal than the truck I have. Good Job Ford.

Looks like we got the better years for super duties.....The extra displacement allows us to hit well above our weight class in towing. This has all the look and feel as the death of the XL trim level. We had a long thread last year on it. F150 drive train in a super duty with the 6.8 and 10R100 and above all no crank windows. I shake my head.....and at the same time im thankful for my 21!
You're right you can but it makes no sense as you'll be up to the price of a Lariat with a lot less options if you add much to your XL.
Despite some complaints, last years build was a LOT more ala carte. The '22 STX I had ordered was pretty much the same price as the XLT I ended up buying. Difference was the XL/STX had more features than the XLT, or at least more features I wanted instead of features in forced packages. The STX is no longer "good value". I think you are right, might as well jump all the way to a Lariat...

Yup! You hit the nail on the head. My STX has very few options, however everything I ordered for the most part was me picking one item here or there and not the entire package to get one thing I wanted, heck you can't get the 7.3 without adding the STX package which adds another $5k to the build. Only thing I wish my XL had was power folding mirrors, however Boost Auto can fix that for about a grand and I'm still cheaper than a similarly equiped XLT. I imagine to get an XL/STX with even the same options as mine would be $65ish or so, give or take. I believe my 22 had an MSRP of 54 or so.
It sounds like a aftermarket landscape with more hands on ownership unless folks want to pony up for unwanted items. Or more take off items in the junk yard.

I think its important to note too, the majority of people buying and ordering vehicles is fine with what Ford is doing, its the forum people and FB groups that use their trucks for specific reasons or need XYZ but don't need ABC. Ford caters to the majority and for a lot of us that sucks, but that's what makes financial sense as well for any company. Of course Ford isn't going to say we're doing this to maximize profits but that's exactly what they are doing.
Im really disappointed in the way Ford seems to be going. Its as if they have forgotten that these truck sales are what pays the bills. Ford has owned the work industry for years, but if they try to option everyone out of an XL to make higher profits, they are quickly going to learn most business will just go to another brand. Then see how you pay for all these EVs when super duty sales tank!

yeah, the compulsory addition of the electronic nannnies if you want a 7.3 is some grade F bovine manure.
I’m on the fence if I want to order a RCLB next year depending on how the 6.8 first year works out but I was REALLY looking forward to an XL RCLB 7.3 with the 10r140 and 4.30 with or without STX before STX became the “we know what’s good for you and you pay 7k” package. If Ram keeps its tradesman available with the Cummins without adding bunch of crap I’m going to get a Ram 3500 instead being the same price as a 7.3 with all the electronic overlords.

Do not be so sure you will avoid the nannies on a Tradesman Ram. My 2015 was over the top with nannies, even as a Power Wagon. I paid to trade that truck after a year, one of the worst I have ever owned.
