So going to start "GUY SCOUTS"-- the first merit badge will be-- Restoring a project, and BBQ fundamentals. What merit badges would also be cool? (Keep it clean Curtis :-)
Darn it, I'm so close to earning my "restoring a project" merit badge. Still need to install dual exhaust, weld on the e-brake brackets, and undercoat the bottom of the mustang before it's "done"
I've fundamentally restored a BBQ after my dog ate the wiring, does that get me two at once???? lol
Oh you did allot to yours-- Clint and i just did the noticeable stuff (install engine- paint innards- get exhaust installed- lose brake pedal while driving and get it fixed :-) Deliver it to Manhattan.
Jump starting patch was earned this weekend. One battery was from 2007- another from 2001. None of the vehicles had been started since July. (one was used in July) One hadn't been started since Feb/March. 4 vehicles total- couple trucks- a tractor and a side by side. Note to self - need to get batteries and jumper cables by winter for Dad and Moms farm.
It amazes me.. something like Vice Grip Garage.. "Well this car hasn't been started for 55 years, lets see if it will turn over... Hmm Battery is still good"
Me.."I put a brand new battery in this 5 hours ago, lets see if the battery is still good! Nope"
and I'm going to drive it 600 miles in the next 2 hours--- no cops- no brakes- no air conditioning--- Ugh it would take allot in some of those to make it the whole way.
If I was the one doing the work, I would run into way more issues than he does, and likely get the engine running to find out the transmission was shot.
I was really surprised when I got the mustang up and running with pretty much no pre-existing issues (at least before they parked it)
I even talked to the previous owner about it last night when we swung by to show her the progress we had made. When I asked her why they parked it years ago she said it was because the tags ran out
The 82' Ford Stepside I bought a long time ago from Jamie's grandpa had a similar story. Nothing wrong with it, they just parked it because they didn't need it anymore. Was able to get that one up and going with minimal effort.
Guess it just goes to show that not everything that has been parked was due to a mechanical failure, gives me hope for other revivals!
