Why Ford, why?

Who came up with the bright idea to but 2.0 coarse threads up front & 1.5 out back?

The first time a lug nut failed I was perplexed as to why every nut I got at the parts store wouldn't fit. Even though it's an 03 I figured "let me try using one from an 01", found the solution.

The axles were never replaced so this was a factory mess. When I replaced the hubs, sure enough 2.0 thread was the only one availble. Imagine going to have your tires changed without knowing this & the guy mixes up the nuts then tries to impact them on.

Another one I'm trying to figure out is the front outer axle shaft seal "redesign". I'm unsure if this is on Ford or retailer scumbaggery but the metal cup that sat on the 60 (not super 60) shaft between it & the seal, some places say a redesigned seal eliminated this, some such as ventures say "some come with it, some don't."

Well that doesn't help.

Most 60 axles I've seen have that press fit metal cup torn to crap by dingbats who either didn't install or uninstall the shaft correctly when doing a u-joint. Mine was filled with prybar holes dooming any future seal to be torn as soon as it was installed.

Looking for a replacement seal just becomes irritating when met by the redesign answer. When they show the redesign, they show something for a super 60, not a regular 60.

Front hubs come in M14x1.5 or M14x2.0 threads. Sounds like your fronts were changed at some point and later the mistake was discovered. Rather than re-doing the job, it was cheaper to replace the lugs.

The hub assemblies were pretty much done by the time I bought the truck last year, they looked to be the orignals. Virtually nothing was ever repaired on it, even a simple valve stem was too much for the prior owner to bother with.

Oddly enough when ordering replacements the 5.4/4x4 SRW combo called for 2.0 coarse, I believe the 1.5 threaded ones I could find noted DRW only.

I can guarantee Ford did not do this. Someone has changed something on your truck.
