Old Man noises
Just experienced my first drive in my Excursion in sub-30 degree weather. Wow did it develop a lot of groans, squeaks and creaks! It will be stored away for the winter once the salt starts hitting the roads here, since it's from the south and hasn't seen snow (also it is RWD with an open diff so helpless), but I was surprized how many noises it made in the cold! Are there common areas I can look over to see if there is a problem? I'm thinking front suspension bushings and such. When the body/frame twists over a diagonal surface like a driveway it's really bad! Sounds like an 80 year old man getting up from a chair!

Just had a chance to get under it - think I found my problem. The bushings in the radius arm are both bad. Driver's side is worse, but both need replaced. I can replicate the sound perfectly by jacking it up right on the mount - can see it move as it 'thuds'. Also need all new transmission lines. Oh well winter would be too boring without something to do in the garage!
