Question testing fuel injectors

I have a 95 psd w/ 98k and know two of the eight fuel injectors have been replaced w/ remanufactured fuel injectors. ( I took the valve cover off the right side ) How do you test to see if any other ones are bad. Can a ford dealer tell if they are bad an which ones or is it a guessing game. Also where is the best place to get fuel injector and what can i expect to pay??

Is there any way a home mechanic could test them??
Thanks

Ford forever!!!!!!!!!

What do you mean "bad"?? Firing too rapidly or too slowly?

because of the tools needed that are only available at certain dealerships or fuel inj manufacturers you will not be able to test them. Basically there is no need to test them. If they go bad you replace them. you can try running some type of fuel inj cleaner (diesel cleaner) .

You can test the solenoid with a ohm meter through the valve cover plugs. But this is not a positive test that the whole entire injector is working correctly. If you take the valve covers off the "acid" test for the injectors is to run the engine and check for oil flow out the "weep" hole in the injectors. If you have a good flow out the hole then the oil passages are clear and the piston inside is moving. If one or more injectors are flowing less than the others you have a bad injector(s). Lastly if you have good fuel pressure then they are working. You can also unplug the injector/GP valve cover plug one at a time and look for the plug that effects the idle the least, this will give you an idea where to look. Note this is merely an operational test not a actual fuel flow/calibration test.

how do you test the fuel pressure (ie where and what type of tester should i need. )

Also, how far do you have to turn the round allen head fastener to remove all the oil from the head??. I turned it to the left for several turns and it seemed to get harder so i stopped. Are there just 2 drain plugs for each side??
thanks for all the replies

Usually.....I dont know if this applies to diesels......fuel pressure is tested using a pressure guage and it is attached at the fuel rail.

There is a plug at the fuel filetr housing that you use for fuel pressure test. There are 2 plugs for each head and remove the completely.

I agree with what IH tech said. On the fuel pressure, the port on the drivers side of the fuel filter housing is a schrader valve just like on a tire. You can even use a tire gage to do a quick check but the tire gage will most likely be ruined due to fuel reacting with its seals. There are no fuel rails on a PSD. fuel psi should be 45-75psi at idle. Before reinstalling the injectors be certain to remove all fluid from inside the cylinder, and fill the oil passages before trying to restart it.
