I have a ‘48 F5 and have had the very same discussion multiple times that the engine had to be swapped at some point because the distributor is on then side. My dad bought the truck in 1970 from the original owner and I’m 99.95% sure its original. It’s even titled as a 47
All 1948-51 F-1/6 trucks, ordered with a V8, came with 8BA heads. 8RT heads didn't come out until 1952. All engines built in the first couple months of 1948 had head studs with nuts.

Are you sure? My research shows the 8RT heads were used starting in 1948 in f-4 and larger trucks. My 1950 F-6 has the original 8RT in it.
Since there is no sign of 8RT heads in any Ford Chassis Parts Catalog until the one dated January 1952, and I have owned/parted out/worked on over 100 1948-52 Ford trucks, I'm sure that the engine in your '50 has been replaced, or at least the heads were.
