Ok dilemma
i have three Superduty trucks
1999 F250 lariat 7.3 auto extended cab 4x4 camper shell and bed slide etc. 183,000 runs great looks spotless.
2001 F350 dually XLT 7.3 Standard with Gearvendors OD extended cab dually 4x4 162,000 miles runs great looks spotless.
2003 F350 Lariat 6.0 Standard crew cab dually 4x4 223,000 PO did studs and assume EGR and oil coolers. Runs good needs rear tires and paint job. Just picked up so I haven’t gone through it. It’s planned as a long distance two vehicle. I figure I’ll have to dump at least 2000-2500 in a paint job and maybe 1800 in basics maintenance fluids filters four rear tires etc. haven’t dug into the truck as far as running gear etc.
my wife is handicapped so we need the larger cab for the long trips for her and two dogs. The extend cab while it works it is a bit more crammed but doable as we have for that for years now.
now I was thinking of taking the gear vendors OD unit out of the 2001 and putting it on the 2003. While I dont use it a lot it’s nice to have cause it does give a bit more mpg. Or is that even worth the hassle?
now which would you sell if yiu were to sell either the 1999 or the 2001. I don’t really want to sell the 2003 but I can sell it and look for a 7.3 crew cab.
im not having financial difficulties so the vehicle sold would be simply to downsize but I would not cry if I never got rid of them. I do my own work so I’m not afraid of doing the true bulletproof in the 6.0.
thanks for any insight.
oh and also on that dually it has two almost new copper 235. I can get a set of six Cooper 265/75/16 for less than four 235/85. Would you guys do that or just buy four 235/85s?

sounds like the ‘03 is already what you want and how you want it
I doubt the 4r100 gears vendors unit will work on a 5r110 anyway
so IF I were in your shoes I’d sell the 7.3 trucks asap before values fall off even more
I called Gearvendors and they said the Gearvendors unit will fit.. it’s designed to remove the tail shaft of the t-case and bolt the adapter. I will need a adapter and new controller but it’s doable. It’s still
cjeaper than buying another GV. But I’ll probably leave it alone. It’s a good amount of work to swap it over.
I actually talked to a few buddies and my wife and decided to just keep the trucks and get the 6.0 long distance trip ready. All I need is a paint job and do the full bulletproof. Obviously check all components but I’ve worked on these trucks a log time so nothing is really that hard. And this isnt a daily driver Meanwhile
I’ll use the 7.3s as we’re already set up for that for this years vacation. . And the prices have not dropped much at all in my area. There has been some drops but we’re talking 350,000 construction trucks that were way overpriced to start with. Low mileage clean title maintained 7.3s still command top dollar. Regardless I’m not that concerned. Trucks are all paid off and registration and insurance isn’t that much a year. I appreciate the insight. .
