ECM/PCM Firewall Seal

Hey folks

So after replacing my ecm recently, I noticed that the old black seal which seals the ecm to the firewall is, well 30+ years old!

Anyone have any suggestions for a better replacement? I have looked at 2 ecm housings from these era trucks and they seem to have this same oxidized aluminum around the connector. I am sure moisture getting in around the ecm connector is not helping.

One Idea I have is installing the ECM without the old black seal and than putting tape/plastic around the connector, than sealing the plug up with silicone. I have chimney silicone. Than I can take the ecm out when the silicone drys. Take the plastic/tape off. It most likely will be a decent seal...

I am sure there are other ideas....

Not my connector but it shows you what I am dealing with

I would use a butyl sealant if possible. or use a foam backer rod to fill gap and then use something tolerant to some heat.. and cold.. needs to be able to contract as well as expand and vibrate.. tough one. maybe install a heat shield and use a specialty elastomeric kinda thing

I used a clear adhesive sealant like
https://www.amazon.com/Sashco-13010-Sealants-Adhesive-10-5-Ounce/dp/B000PSDEKA/ https://www.amazon.com/Sashco-13010-Sealants-Adhesive-10-5-Ounce/dp/B000PSDEKA/
or
https://www.amazon.com/Flex-Glue-Clear-PRO-Formula/dp/B07VRV9Y2N/ https://www.amazon.com/Flex-Glue-Clear-PRO-Formula/dp/B07VRV9Y2N/
and resealed it by putting a glob on my hand and working it around the connector/connection. Also used it on places on the firewall and cowl area where the OEM sealant had dried up and such.
