I replaced fuel injectors this weekend because I kept getting a random cyl 4 misfire. I had just replaced sparkplug with Motorcraft platinum SP479. Engine would occasionally stumble. I bought Bosch injectors at Autozone, truck runs like crap. Will barely idle. What is the best brand injectors without paying 600.00 for Motorcraft?
Bosch used to make the Ford ones
I look and find the Motorcraft ones on ebay cheap as a set
You may have a different problem?
I would not jump on replacing the injectors again (yet)
You did not say what vehicle you are driving but,
Check the fuel pressure and clear / recheck the codes
Okay great So 2000 5.4 has a coil on plug setup
Have you swapped the #4 coil with say #3 to verify it is not the coil at fault?
Did you replace the coil boots?
I agree injectors would be next after the coil swap
How many miles? Some get camshaft follower / rocker arm roller tip failure which causes a miss
Hopefully a coil or something cheap fixes yours
Have you checked for an intake manifold vacuum leak around cylinder 4?

Yeah Bosch QA has gone to the crapper..... MC are the only fuel injectors I will buy for our fords...........
Mail original set out for service. Injector Rx did mine last year for Lobo and the Mexpedition. Ran about $200 shipped for all eight.
Interesting on camshaft lifter/rocker. My Lobo 5.4 had the intake rocker off on No 4. Replaced rocker and lifter, still have miss there. Next test for me is compression then leakdown.

yes, swapped 3 and 4 coils, still has cyl 4 misfire. As far as vacuum leak, I had to replace some elbows that had dry rot. I've got about 162,000 miles. If I can make to May of next year, buying a newer truck anyway. Can probably live with the occasional miss until then. I can clear the code and it may be 2-3 weeks before it comes back.
Okay then, back to the spark plugs, injectors and coil boots
Did you replace the boot on 4?
You replaced the injectors just for the # 4 miss right?
So, other than painstakingly swapping the 4 injector with another one for an additional test
I'd be looking at the plug real close
Especially if it takes several days for the miss to show up
Your engine may be letting some coolant past the head gasket and fouling the plug
Has the coolant been going down much in the tank?
Better pull the valve cover and watch the valves actuate / inspect the cams? Again?
I've seen heads crack and other problems with 5.4's
Not common
