Question need help

Hi Guys,I'm a new user to this group.I have been working for a Ford dealer for 25 years.I haven't set up a profile or gallery yet [not sure how to yet] I presently own several trucks,56 F100 5.4L aode trans just finishing it.-85 f-250 6.9 with 175000 miles,,87 F-350 crewcab dually,460 ci 195000 miles[my baby] 88 F-350 4x4 7.3 185000 miles. I have a question for this group. my 87 460 runs strong and very fast, how ever gas mileage very poor.10-11 empty,3-4 pulling my equipment trailer.the engine is just starting to smoke on heavey accel, also compression is starting to wain.I plan to swap the drive train from my 88 into this truck, the 7.3 should give me what I'm looking for.now my question,,does any one know if I can us the tanks that are in my 87[Gas and are new last year] My parts guys don't know, the parts listing doesn't list seperate tanks for gas or diesel.I planned to remove the tanks and clean them out with diesel fuel and replace the switching valve, but not sure if this will work.I've never done this type of swap before, any help would be greatly appreciated,Thanks

If the tanks are galvinized do not use them as diesel fuel will eat away at the tank surely causing$$$$ problems. If they are plastic just give them a good cleaning.Be prepared to do some wireing changes from the diesel donor to the gasser.
