Further justification of my choice to go diesel...the cheapest fuel at my local Shell.

$$$$6.49 is Cheap????? I guess it is compared to the gas in your location, God Bless You! My first reaction was, you must be in a small village located in Alaska, but then I looked at the surroundings.....

Ouch, about $2 over what I paid when I topped off last weekend. Paid $4.42 /gallon with my discount.

I could say more, but I'd have to give myself a warning for going on a political rant.

My tongue was firmly in my cheek! It is cheaper than gas for the moment.

I haven't seen diesel cheaper than any regular gasoline around here in 10 years or more.

Diesel prices around me fluctuate in comparison to gas. They are rarely above what premium unleaded runs. They are occasionally below regular unleaded (as now, by .25-.40/gallon). Most of the time it is between regular unleaded and premium.

When you live in an area like Poway where the median home price is 1.2 million, you can probably absorb higher fuel prices than most folks.

So saving $0.30 a gallan and not factoring in more expensive maintenance and the cost of Def fluid. You should recoup the $10,000 the diesel cost you in about 34,000 gallons.

Further justification of my choice to never live in California. $3.89 for diesel fuel here. $3.39 for regular 87.

California is just ridiculous. There are many other places around the country with median incomes close to that and the cost of living is half of CA.

Must be Cali...the Shell I like to go to for diesel is $6.58 Regular unleaded and $6.19 Diesel (cash prices). I assume the partial diesel tax suspension that started Oct. 1st is contributing to the difference. Gas has jumped up rapidly lately. The cheapest gas price nearby is $6.09.

Most places in Michigan have diesel at around $1.00-$1.30 more per gallon than 87 octane gas, which is down from around $1.50-$2.00 more per gallon a month or so ago.

Poway, CA (San Diego County)
August '22 Median Home Price = $977,500 (Down 14% from August '21)
2020 Median Household Income = $115,332 (Most recent data)

If you are trying to pay the mortgage on a median priced home and your family has that median income, you can afford almost nothing else.
