Anyone know of a steering stabilizer kit for '51 F1? LMC shows one as out of stock, no backorder date. Not trying to re-hash the whole "if your shocks, kingpins, tie rods and ends, draglinks are replaced you don't need one" discussion. I've done all that but i'd like to reduce the bump steer on potholes, etc. thanks
Just asking because I don't know, where do you mount a stabilizer with cross steering? Last vehicle I had with stabilizer was a 78 Bronco and it wasn't cross steer. Just curious.
I'm a firm member of the "you don't need one" camp. When/if you find one and install it, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on it. If it helped with your situation, etc.
Good luck
Bobby
I put one on my 52 f1 that has all new wheel bearings, bushings, shackles, springs, alignment and a 3 inch dropped axle.Shook like crazy after a bump, Put on a stabilizer from amazon that I forgot the name of and drives the way it should now. I even went looking for rr tracks and bad bumps to check and seems fine. No heavy steering feel either.Well worth it. Mine has the shock body mounted to the axle and plunger to the tie rod.
Back in the late 70's I installed one and it took care of those crazy wobbles when hitting a bump.
In my 90's rebuild we took care of the front end so didn't require one anymore.
I seem to recall though that I had purchased a new one figuring at the time it would be needed.
I will look for it .
Found it! Never been out of the box. The box shows some sign of oil but piston looks and seems fine. maybe from some other source over the years.
bassdr it's yours if you want it.

Does that work with a solid I beam axle or is that for a retrofit frond end? Learning here so trying to understand the application fir educational purposes.
In the image you posted it shows mounting to a round axle tube.
Thanks for the offer blsd49! I actually purchased one on amazon, a rancho brand for less than 60. Just haven't had time to install and report back findings. Should get some time this week if we get some rain.
Finally got around to installing this so thought I'd circle back with results. On Carletta the '51 F1 recently replaced front shocks, tie rod, tie ro ends, draglink hardware, kingpins and spindles honed. It definitely drove better, but still lots of steering wheel free play and bump steer. So bought the rancho
steering stabilizer kit on amazon for $65. Took a whole day to get here. I'll try to post pics here. Noticed the ubolt that secures the fat end of stabilizer to axle is curved, not rectangular like you need for these I beam axles. Used it any way but plan on replacing with rectangular ubolt for better fitment as soon as I get to the farm and home store. Instructions were scant but easy enough to figure out. It definitely reduces bump steer, and tightened up the steering (I know I need to rebuild steering box..maybe this winter) Is it as tight as my "new" 2015 F150 with 190k miles? Darn near! Would I do it again? Hmm, cheap, easy less than an hour install, effective results. Heck yeah! Certainly not sure if it would work on "heavier" trucks, F4, ,etc. might require a twin stabilizer kit
What size tires/rims are you running on the front? TIA.
If you still have the stock springs up front, you might consider switching to Posie’s (2 springs). It was a nice improvement on my truck. Easy to do (easier if you have a lift, which I don’t).
