Evening everyone, I have a 96 ranger 2wd manual that the odometer quit working on, already replaced the common worm gear that was broken, this fix lasted about a month and half, it will work VERY intermittently, took it back apart and replaced worm gear again even though nothing was wrong with it, still not working, I’m sure others have come across this as it’s a common thing, of course no parts available from dealer. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did the problem come about slowly over time, or suddenly after some event???
Most times its the rear differential speed sensor windings going open circuit, or a wire, connector pin / socket, or wire to the sensor going open circuit, short to ground through damaged insulation, or corrosion in a connector pin / socket connection. Seeing as how the problem seems to be intermittent, any of those scenarios could fit at this time, so we need some more clues to help decide where best to look next.
Some beginning thoughts for consideration, let us know what you find.
I believe we found the culprit to be a bad motor for the odometer. Currently looking for a used cluster I can rob one from or a complete cluster possibly with a tach and close mileage to what I have showing.
