As George said, be careful extending the boom it will put the hook out past the front feet and it will tip forward on you and smack the tailgate. I have successfully done that a few times myself, mainly with light items where I needed some extra reach. You may want to look for another option to get it out, like maybe just dragging it back a bit before lifting. Getting it in is another problem.
Sorry I didn't think about the reach before you bought the engine hoist.

Is there room to run the picker in from the side of the truck? Without causing any damage that is. Extend it too far...watch out for tipping.
Here's a redneck engineering trick that I've used a few times 2 8' step ladders, a 4x4, a come-a-long. Put the 4x4 across the ladders, back under, use the come-a-long to do the hoisting. Used that set up a few times to get engines out of the bed of the truck.

The ladder idea is a good one
I am going to try extending the boom.......
I'll proceed carefully......

Good Morning Montana, Roy, Bud, George, Tim and Cowboy Crew.
Looks like you are a little short for sure. I agree you may put you center of gravity too far forward and the hoist tip. We keep two old big block Chevy heads on the back of the hoist as counterweights!

Morning Sailor ! I'm sure a resourceful Sailor will figure this out. You have lots of kibitzers helping.
