I guess thats the term to use. Over the past couple of months, I have found myself listening to bands like Rush, Yes, Supertramp, and ELO (to name a few). Anyone out there like any of these bands? I just installed an mp3 cd player in my truck, and I am looking for some suggestions on songs, as well as other similar bands to make some great mixes of. Oh, the big one is Rush. You guys have any recommendations on good songs, or albums to pick up? I have always been a classic rock fanatic, and I have found myself widening my horizons lately. If this applies to no one, thats fine. Otherwise, let the floodgates open!
You have to have "Leave It" by Yes. Anything off 90125 is good. Also Styx, if you like power ballads. "Madame Blue" was always a fave. All Rush is good. Think of more later.
Thanks, I'll see if I can find those songs. Oh yeah, I like some of the Styx stuff. We are getting our satellite internet hooked up here tomorrow , so good times will be had (the current dialup allows us 3 kbps for download speeds ).
I've got Rush's "Caress of Steel" on record. If I were to make an all star band, Geddy Lee would be my first pick of a front man of all living singers. Second would be the guy from Accept.
Try some UFO stuff ("Doctor, Doctor" and "Rock Bottom" are two good ones). I think they fall into that same category... I got a few of their songs from the server at work (go figure), and I like 'em.

What, we should recommend something like Evanesence, a band whose name sounds like it's something you'd find in the feminine hygiene aisle?
For some new stuff, I kind of like The White Stripes (even though I think they'll turn out to be a one-trick pony), The Distillers, Outkast and even Coldplay, but none of that sounds anything like the stuff he's looking for.

To be "progressive" one would have to be able/capable of:
Moving forward; advancing.
Proceeding in steps; continuing steadily by increments: progressive change.
Promoting or favoring progress toward better conditions or new policies, ideas, or methods.
How can that stuff be "progressive " when 3/4 of them are dead or have alzheimers????
I am making a joke here for those that do not get it...............
With the exception of three or four bands, I have heard nothing that I have liked for music in the past twenty years. "All that crap is going on 30 years old" Crap huh? So what exactly do you like? Comments like that are not needed (you didnt need to respond the the thread, I am only looking for fans of said music). If you were to post something about how to install an overhead fan, would you expect someone to reply back 'overhead fans suck!'?. I think you get my drift. BTW, I wasnt around 30 years ago, so YES, it is new to me.
Sorry I was so heavyhanded I just thought it funny to refer to
30 yr. old music as progressive.
I will try to be constructive since I was around then.
Jeff Beck
Ten Years After
ELP
Jethro Tull
Todd Rungren(sp?)
David Bowie
Humble Pie
Today I like White Stripes as has been said as well as Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age and a few others but I am now and will be forevermore a diehard TOOL fan.
Yeah, I think my favorite band of the era is definaltey Rush. You have any songs I should look out for? I have the few basic dominant ones (freewill, limelight, etc). I would love to get alot more of them. Do you have any favorite cds from them?? I have some money in best buy gift cards that I would definatley not mind spending on cds...
