I'm new to this group, and no doubt you've talked about this before, but I need info. I've replaced my fuel pump and had some problems disconnecting the fuel lines, but got through it anyways. Now I want to change the gas filter but the tools I have won't fit to remove the filter. Is there a trick to this? Am I missing something?
Yes, there is a trick to it. You need the quick-disconnect tools for the lines that you can pick up at any good auto parts store. Also, don't forget to release the pressure before or you going to have a big mess on your hands!
I own some quick disconnect tools, but I can't fit them on the quick connector. The gas filter is punctured so there is no more pressure. The gas filter rotates freely in both ends of the line but I can barely fit a flat head screw driver between the filter and quick connector.
Thanks RandyD,
I did purchase the plastic disconnect tools awhile back. I removed the gas filter this weekend by prying it off. I think I still had the original gas filter on the truck. The nipples on the filter were to short for the tool to slide in between the filter and the connector. I damaged the springs in the connectors but I re-fashioned them to hold. The replacement gas filter has longer nipples so that in the future the disconnect tools will slide in easily.
I appreciate everyones advice on this subject.
Thanks again.
Caldor.
