MOV 1 Varistor?

MOV 1 Varistor?



I'm looking to repair this airbag control module (the little blue box underneath the dash) and I can't seem to find what the burnt up component is. Its labeled MOV 1 and is supposedly a varistor but to what value I have no idea....

Does anyone have any leads on information about this or what it even is for that matter, orrrrr does anyone have any extra "ACM's" ?

It is to protect part of the circuit and components on the board. You need to find the cause of why it burnt out.

When I originally disassembled it, the red circled part was bent and in contact with that heat sink directly next to it. I imagined it simply got too hot. The rest of the board looks intact as does the rest of the 'chip'...

I meant the code on the dash.

My mistake, you mean the obd1 code?

As I remember there were no codes related to this or even a CEL. The only symptom that I have now is an airbag light.
Before, when it was still connected, my instrument cluster was shorted out. No speedometer, odometer, and overdrive light flashing. removing the ACM remedied thoses problems.

No. She means the air bag fault code. The air bag is a completely separate system from the engine/transmission management system so you would not get a fault code from the PCM/ECM.

You cant get a code without a monitor, and im inclined to recommend not fixing that monitor as is and reconnecting just because im not comfortable enough to say it wont set air bag off because something failed that we dont see lol


But if you WANT to try it, id think the air bag monitor can be installed with the airbag disconnected, so that you should be able to read the code flash and make sure it seems normal otherwise

Okay, after reconnecting, no flashes. Which I'm inclined to interpret as "inoperative indicator circuit or no battery positive voltage to air bag diagnostic monitor."

When disconnected there is simply a constant air bag indicator

I'm going to solder in the new varistor tomorrow and hopefully it all goes well
