Anybody out there install them on your Super Duty? Thinking about it. For a big truck the horn is kind of wimpy so I’d like to beef it up. Any suggestions?
I have Vixen train (not really) horns on my Excursion. Got them from Amazon. Horns and air compressor. I added a T fitting off the air tank and an air coupler. With a HF coiled hose, I can reach all 4 tires and fill the airbags when I hook up my enclosed car trailer. It is recommended to have them pointed backward so you do not force water and other debris into them. They are quite loud! If I keep the F350 and sell the Excursion, I'll move them over.
ShelbyHauler: How much were they? What's the model number of those? What about the wiring aspect, was it hard to do. Any recommendations when running the wires. That's the only thing that intimidates me, it's the wiring.
I had to supply the wire, I think I used some 12 gauge from Home Depot. On the Excursion, there is a 12v junction just in front of the brake booster, not sure what there might be on the Superduty, but I am sure it should not be too hard to find something. A relay and fuse tap can be used to make sure its only powered when the truck is running. I added a black horn button to the dash and hid the wires in the space between two panels on the Excursion's dash, but you can also tap into your horn button. Again, this will have to be done differently on the Superduty. I got lucky and was able to mount the air tank using the brackets from the drivers side running board on the Excursion. I haven't looked to see where it might mount on the Superduty. I do know there is a lot of space under the Superduty though, and I'm sure that worst case is you might have to fab up a bracket or two to mount the tank and horns.
I really appreciate all your help everybody. From everything I’ve looked at I like the Klein the hornblasters and the vixen. But I don’t have upfitter switches. From the looks of it it’s not too hard to add them but trying to find the right kit. I’ll ask in another thread since that’s a different issue. Thanks again everybody.
I was planning on wiring the compressor to one of the upfitter switches
I thought of using a switch in my install, but then you forget the switch and try to blow the horns, and no air pressure... I guess if you plan on letting the truck set for a while. When that happens to me, I just pull the in-line fuse in the engine bay.
