Stupid question but I need to know. Is kickdown lever pushed down by the carb when you step on the throttle or does the transmission pull the lever to open the carb up when it's under load?
I installed a raised manifold and 2" spacer. Now I'm trying to figure out how to rig my kickdown lever.
You may be able to straighten the lever out a little for longer reach. As I recall you need about .015 clearance left between the screw and little lever when you hold the throttle wide open. LOKAR makes a cable assemble.
Yes, when I ended up with a much taller intake, spacer and carb combo my kickdown wouldn't reach. Going to the Lokar cable is fairly cheap, a piece of cake to hook up, and works great.
I ran into a problem w/ my kickdown lever years back after swapping engine and tranny.
I wound up cutting one of the levers that was a close fit and welding appropriate size nuts to the cut ends and running a piece of allthread to make the lever adjustable. It worked out fine for my application.
I rather like the Lokar cable idea when I restore my old truck though.
Thanks guys for the compliments It will look better when I paint it. I'm gonna shoot it olive drab with military markings, then throw on some little white sillhouttes of hondas and such on the front fenders for "kills". The cops down here in Oregon are pretty cool with it but yea, Washington fuzz won't even let me cross three miles over the border without jumping on me. Anyways, yes, the Lokar cable comes with a couple of brackets and replaces all of the factory brackets and the cable attaches directly to the rectangular arm coming out of the tranny. It replaces the whole kickdown assembly and connects directly to the carb. Mine works great.
