First of all, let me say that this cite is great. I don't know how long it's been up but I just found it and am very thankful.
Now, lets get to the question.By reading previous posts I have found that a 4x4 Toyota power steering system can be used on a ford truck. Well I think that's great since I have had all kinds of trouble with my 59 ford pick-up original steering box. But, what year toyota truck must I get the power steering system out of that will be compatible with my 59 truck. So far most of the info has been on the 52-56 series, but, if there is a toyo system out there for my 59, would someone please let me know the year that it has to be and any additional parts that will be required.
Thanks alot
5nine, I am putting the Toyota box on my 56. Search the threads using Toyota etc. and you should come up with some good info. Not sure if your frame is the same as the 53-56 but the steering boxes come from 79-85 Toyota 4X4 trucks. You can use power or manual boxes. You will end up having to make or get a new pitman arm, collar for where the steering shaft exits the column (if you keeping the stock one) and will have to cut of the stock steering shaft from the original box to mate it to the Toyota box. You also need the mounting bracket to mount the Toyota box to your frame. Two basic types. Look at this site for info on one type. http://www.f100connection.com/ in the tech section. CPP sells the other bracket.
I have done a little investigation into this subject. I talked to Javier at CPP, he sold a 56 kit to a guy to use on a 57. He said the only problem he had was connecting the pitman arm to the drag link that runs to the spindle steering arm. It looks like the kit will go right on with exception to the pitman arm. Some one told me that the 56 link will fit on the 57 spindle arm, not sure if this is true....F100 connection also has a kit that gets welded in. I believe anyone with a little welding sense should be able to save themselves $100 and make it themselves, that's what I plan to do. The CPP kit bolts on however. I am also told that a machine shop can taper drill the pitman arm, so you could drill off the ball and use your original link!! The 79-85 Toyota 4WD steering box should be the right box to use. Good luck finding an inexpensive box! Let me know if you find out any more info.

Thanx for the info kecky and pootscratch. Finally found a toyo powersteering box in junkyard. came off an 83 4x4. cost $93 with steering pump, hoses, mounting bracket, pitman arm and link that attaches to pitman arm stud ball. i have also ordered the u-joint that will attach the stock shaft to the toyo box. don' know if this will be possible, but i plan to use the toyota pitman arm without any moderations to it. that is, instead of moderating the pitman arm or ordering it, i will instead moderate the toyota link which attaches to the pitman arm, and moderate the ford link and finally weld them together. in other words i will use half of the toyota link and half of the ford link. i dont think i have mentioned it, but my truck is a 3 speed on the tree. any tips or sugestions on my idea and how to best overcome the 3 on the tree factor ( to reduce inerference with gear links and box installation) will be appreciated.
I have a 60 4x4 and I was thinking of putting the toyo box in front of the axle the same way toyo has it to clear my headers and stuff. I have not done to much measuring and mocking up but it looks great in my head.
I am looking at No Limit Engineering ad in the feb 2004 Classic Trucks mag. They show a Toyota kit for 53-60 F100. Which means it should fit. Not sure if they will give you a straight answer if your not buying their kit. But you can try.
