91 ranger 3.0 needs a new engine and tranny. I have 04 freestar with a 4.2 at my disposal. Just need to find another transmission for it. Has anyone tried this? If so, please tell me. What transmission will fit that engine? The truck was originally my dad's, but he tore that engine and tranny up, by pulling a trailer that was too much for it.

 

I believe the FWD 3.8/4.2 use the Vulcan bolt pattern like your 3.0 does.

Problem is...how are you going to get it to run properly?

OBD2 uses many for inputs to the computer than your Ranger does.

Sell 4.2, buy another 3.0. That’s my prescription.
