I got a reman cardone pump (rock auto part#206304) for a ‘66 f100 240. I didn’t see that it didn’t come with a cap I also need a pulley for it. My searches are coming up empty handed. I don’t know if power steering pulleys are universal or not. Anyone know where I can find these parts??
The cap isn't the same size as the original. The original has a tiny cap with a built in dipstick, and this remn has a much larger opening. As for the pulley, I was an overly tired idiot yesterday who should have walked away for the evening. I used the wrong tool, and I didn't see that I was ruining it until it was too late.
Most all parts stores will rent you a tool to remove and replace those pulleys. Or if you buy the pump from them some will install the pulley for you. Most people just buy the bare pump and reuse their old tank. Which is only held on by the nut in the center. You can usually find plenty of pulleys on e-bay. Please buy a shop manual it will solve a lot of mysteries for you.
Your existing pump sounds like the somewhat newer "pencil-neck" type of fill opening. The small angled opening tube is to help clear air conditioning pumps that became ubiquitous at the time.
Your new pump is more the correct style for the 1966. Mustangs used the same pump. The caps should be readily available.
Just so you know someone swapped in that Bendix gear and it's not original to your truck. Your truck may have had a Bendix power gear originally, but that's a newer gear judging from the number on it. Here's what my power steering pump pulley puller looks like.
