How do I get at the ABS light bulb on my 94 Explorer. I can't get at it from the back and it is recessed very deeply from the front. Do I need a special tool?
I just replaced my engine light so it's the same way. Remove the ashtray, and the screws behind it, then pull the trim away around the instrument panel. Be careful and disconect the rear wiper, rear defroster, and 4x4 engagement buttons. I had to remove the radio also. The trim would flex enough with the radio still installed. Then pull the trim completely off. I had the tranny in 1st to get the gear lever out of the way. There are a few screws around the instument panel, remove them to pull the panel out. If you have an automatic, you'll also have to remove the gearselector- there are 2 screws right above the steering column for that. The gear selector will drop down and out of the instrument panel. Then pull the panel forward to get to the bulbs. If it won't pull far enough, get some slack from the speedometer cable by pushing it up from below by the tranny. It sound more diffulcult than it is, just take your time with the trim, is needs to flex a little to come off. And don't force the panel out, watch the odometer cable. Good luck-
I should have added. The bulbs are in with a screw in type light socket. They just twist about 1/2 a turn. Then come right out.
After you replace the bulb, check to make sure you have it in correctly, by turning on the ignition. I once had to take the dash back apart because I forgot to check the bulb first. I'll never do that agian lol
