My 1989 F350 4X4 crew cab 460 5spd is making my wife mad!
The front axle is leaking on the drivers side and leaving oil spots in the driveway. I of course tell her that a good truck will mark its spot but she doesn't buy it. I have looked in the Haynes manual but it says that this is not a job for the home wrench twister.
How hard is it to put new axel seals in and is it something I should take on.
I believe you have a solid axle in the front end. Is the truck leaking by the front seal or is the differential cover leaking? Also check to make sure it isnt coming from the engine or powersteering pump or gearbox.
Yes the truck does have a solid front axle and there is gear oil leaking from the endof the axle shaft. It looks to me like it needs new seals in the axle but I haven't taken one of these apart so I need to find out how hard of a job is it to put new seals in these front ends? The manual does not cover this.
