Help getting started!!!!

Hello
I need some help guys or suggestions. I have quite a bit motor experience with carbureted motors, but not so much with fuel injected. I have the 2.9 liter fuel injected motor and resides in a 88 4 wheel drive stx. When I got it I foulnd that a head had been cracked, so got a few used ones, had them cleaned and magnafluxed, all good, they were also decked. Assembled them, and put everything back together as had been taken apart, go to fire the motor and nothing. I have plenty of fuel and pleanty of spark to the plugs as well as from the coil. The motor just won't pop off. As a last resort I hold the pedal to the floor and a back firing noise occurs within the motor as if it were out of time, It is definitely timed correctly and firing order has been gone over time and time again. All the guidelines I have followed have been out of a Chiltons book. All pushrods were re installed back to where tey came from etc. , however, not sure if I put the rocker assembly on the correct side as it came from. So looked it up in the book, and couldn't see that that makes a difference, so went ahead and set the valves turning them 1.5 turns after making contact with the valve. Tried to start and nothing again. What is my problem..... help......... Also, I have seen many people on here talk about distributor etc. I also replaced the module on the back of it. Everything there seems to be cosure. My buddy and I feel as if the combustion chambers are not being allowed to breathe,.... ANY help or suggestions is appreciated...

Could be the distributor is 180° out of phase. Verify by removing the #1 spark plug, sticking your finger in the hole and bumping the engine over until you feel compression blowing out the spark plug hole. Then run the timing marks up to just before TDC and see if the rotor points to #1.

Need help

Like I said in the previous thread, it is timed correctly, Rotor is pointing to #1 on the distributor when the #1 cylinder is at top dead center. I don't know what the hell is wrong with it.
