Catless Exhaust

Hey everybody!

This truck currently has the stock exhaust with the stock exit location, for the exception of the muffler which has been deleted and replaced with a piece of straight pipe.

My question is, how would one go about removing the catalytic converters but keeping the downstream O2 sensor intact? (it has the 4.6 3v with only 2 cats in total)

I’ve been told that the downstream sensors aren’t required for the truck to run, but it will still run too rich.

So with that being said, 2 questions:

1. What is your experience with removing the cats (and the downstream O2 sensors if applicable)

2. If the cats were replaced with straight pipe, would an O2 bung still work for the downstream sensor, OR should I just get a tune to lean it back out to stoich?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

1st of all removing the cats without replacing them is illegal in the U.S. (just noticed you're in Germany) I'm not familiar with emission laws over there. 2ndly the down stream sensors are not O2 sensors in so much of the fact they ARE catalyst monitors put in place to let the pcm know the cats are working, yes they look identical and work much the same way but have different jobs. You could run without the downstream cat monitors with no effect on performance, you'll just be staring at a CEL on the dash all the time.

If the truck is running rich you need to look elsewhere for the cause.
