Hello,
I recently bough a 1978 and half F150. At first I though someone put auto hubs on but I did a Marti report and it has Full time 4x4? I guess until now I did not know this was even a option back then. So I am wondering if someone can shed some light on the operation and such. Also the past owner put a 8 ball **** on shifter so I am not even sure of were the lever needs to be. I have tried shifting it and it seams to do nothing even with the trans in neutral but still does nothing, and indicator light does not light up. Any info would be greatly appreciated thank you
In regular 4wd the TC sends power front / rear like an open differential sends power left / right, which means unless one or both axles have anti slip, one wheel can get you stuck.
Do not operate in 4wheel lock on highways or any high traction surface, it locks the front and rear driveshafts together.
I took my T case apart and added a kit that removed the spider gears . Added Lockouts to the front . Still have low range but now can run in TWD till I lock it back in.
