Welding Cab Corners

Is it best to butt weld them in or lap weld and fill? Should I cut them down only using what I need of them or use them whole where they wrap around the door area?

Butt or lap joint is really down to personal choice/ability. Personally, I only butt weld. Although on straight sections there is nothing wrong with using a flanging tool to build in a bit of strength and plug weld it.
I only cut away the bits I need to. If they ever need done again then it's easy to cut higher up.
Just to warn you that the fit is extremely poor on all of them. Generally speaking, you will be cutting off the flanges and remaking them.
Good luck.

OR , because of reasons beyond my control (pacemaker) , I think that the panel adhesive have come a long way, and with no heat warping .

You'd be fine welding sheet steel? Panel adhesive is great though for the right bit. Takes a lot more planning and a very good fit.

Thanks for the advice. I bought this as a retirement project and feel like I may bitten off a lot. I am learning everything as I go along from bodywork to welding etc.. Maybe not the best way to go. but I saw this parked down the street and had to have it. Those restoration TV shows make it look so easy right. They sure look different after you disassemble them and find all the hidden challenges.

There is an old thread on here that gives a really good tutorial on repairing the front fenders, wire to use, how to build your forms, etc. It was written up by a user a few years ago, very valuable resource. There is also a you tube video of a person repairing the front fenders. Those two things should help you.

Once you do that, you should be able to tackle other areas.

Always butt weld sheet metal. If you use a lap joint the sun will heat things up and it will cause a shadow line. Go slow with the butt welds, use a hammer and dolly all the time. Slow going but can turn out well. If you are not comfortable, get some 18 ga sheet metal and practice first. I cut out what was bad and trimmed the patch panel down to suit. That is what most guys do. And when you get to the outside corners of the patch, make a rounded corner, not a straight 90. Less heat build up that way and less problems.
