So as some of you may have gathered, I have a 63 galaxie with a 351 Cleveland in it. The motor may be on its last leg. I’ve been thinking about putting a 300ci 4.9l I6 from an f150 in it.
A: is that just stupid, or what? Any opinions?
and B: would it fit/ mate to the c6 Tranny in there now. Thanks!
There's a saying "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all". While I can agree with that concept, you asked for opinions, and as my ex-wife would tell you, I can be brutally honest.
YGTBSM! Putting a truck engine in a 1963 Galaxie 500 is heresy, plain and simple.
Instead of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, how about go the other way and install a pavement-ripping, fire-breathing FE monster engine. When you open the hood people will gaze in amazement ,as opposed to looking at you with scorn.

nah I totally get it. I just have a weird fascination with the I6 4.9. Thought it’d be an interesting combo. I do have a 460 in my Monterey that only has 20k miles on it since being rebuilt. I’d hate to do it to the Monty but it’d be cool to put in the galaxie. I mean I could rebuild the 351c but it’s like 10k to do so. *sigh*
I’ve never owned one but I am also fascinated by the 300 engine. If the 400 in my truck ever dies I’d love to put in a 300 just to tinker with it.
The problem with doing that in your car is you could very easily go from a peppy fun ride to a slow droning unenthusiastic ride. Sure you can put some work into them and get however much power you can get but in any practical sense any other engine will be a lot more fun.
I agree another 351 would be cool, a 390 would be super freaking cool from a engine up grade perspective as well as the old school fordness of it. A 460 or 400 or 351w would be cool too. Whatever it takes to get it back on the road is what you should do IMO. But a v8 with some paint, good carb and ignition set up, nicely shifting auto or manual and you'd have a super cool FUN old car.

I found that 302. I may go with it if he responds. If not the search continues. I know my mechanic just took a coyote out of a totaled mustang. It survived mostly without a scratch. I wonder what he’s gonna do with it 🧐
What is it you think is the problem with the 351C? Heavy smoke, knocks, leaks, poor running, etc??? May not need a complete rebuild with boring, pistons, rings, cam bearings, hot tanking, head work, etc ,....
My 351M doesn't smoke nor use oil, it has a persistant rear main seal leak du to my only replacing the lower half of the seal when I had to swap in new main and rod bearings and a oil pump in 1992 @ 75,xxx miles, I thought I'd need a nother engine soon so I started fixing one rfor use. 40,xxx miles later, the replacement is still on a stand waiting, the 351M in the truck idles at 40 psi hot, runs 60 ish psi at road speed hot.
