Well back in 72 my dad my a 68 250 from the new york state forestry. He eventually drove it up to alaska were it has been ever since. Some were down the line he went to by a part for it. He tried to install it, but it just would not fit. He took it back and had the people look at his truck and they said it was a 350. They got him the new part and it fit, but the emblem's and the axels are 250. I looked in a book to translate the serial code and the truck was indeed a special order but it does not say what the number specifies. I dont have the # now but i will in the morning.
What kind of part was it? My experience has been that many of the parts associated with the suspension are sized by GVW, rather than by model. For example, my '72 F-250 Camper Special has bigger front coil springs and king pins than a standard F-250 (found out the hard way) but regular-sized axle pivot bushings. Buying parts is always an adventure....
fasttexan, can you give some particulars? I've got a 6900 GVW that I'm going to get some supension and steering parts for and any help you can give would be appreciated.
i have a 69 f350 four door one ton reg bed special order what i need is door panles for the back 2 doors have the orig purchase order was made in canada has disc breaks on it in the front 390 eng and four sreed trans any idead s thANK YOU LARRY
The counter guy at a good parts store (not PepBoys, Autozone, etc) should be able to hook you up with what you need. Be sure to have the GVW information available. The guys I use here in Houston have a lot of parts (especially suspension) listed by the GVW. My axle pivot bushings were the one thing that didn't work out the first time but I was able to return the ones I didn't need. I never did find the coil springs but my originals were good enough to reuse. Like I said, the Camper Specials are a bit of an adventure. Your steering stuff should all be standard. Good luck.
I have found the best bet for springs is a specialty shop that deals in springs. We got a set for a 72 f-100 from napa once. They sold us the heavy duty ones for the application and when asked about the ride height, the counter man assued us that it would be at factory specs. Those springs raised the truck up almost to the end of the shock travel and it not only looked ridiculous, but the camber had the inside of the tread loosing contact. My friend drove it home and the next day we took them back out.
