trying to remove oil pan to swap out gaskets and rear main seal, but starter is in the way for 2 of the bolts.
started removing lower starter bolt, but upper starter bolt seems to be missing.
after disconnecting the neg battery terminal and cable going to starter, still noticing a hard time moving it at all.
tried screwdriver/scraper between starter and bellhousing cover, but no dice.
took a screwdriver to remove some mud from the upper starter bolt hole and felt what appears to be a snapped of bolt a few millimeters in.
The starter bolt holes are not threaded, correct? they thread into the bellhousing, right?
i've tried knocking it loose w/ screwdrivers/scrapers, tried whacking a 2x4 on the starter itself.
any other ideas from the members here?

starter holes aren’t typically threaded. I have a 390; starter has 3 bolts. What engine to you have? I think they are all either 2 or 3 bolts.
just guessing but maybe there’s some lock-tite or something that’s got your starter stuck in place. The 2x4 or maybe a rubber mallet is the right approach provided all mount bolts are removed.
Top starter bolt on the transmission side of bell housing.
that might explain my predicament.
I'll take a look. I just assumed w/ everything else that I'm finding f'd-upped on this truck, that a snapped off starter bolt was just getting added to the list.
Got the upper starter bolt out. That is after I removed the wrong bell housing bolt above it first. Now to figure out how to remove the oil pan. Oil pump is interfering. Will jacking up the front allow the front suspension to droop enough or do I need to raise the engine a few inches?
Only done the pan removal on a Bronco and that would be different. On my 64 Mercury the oil pump had to be unbolted and dropped into the pan. Reverse process for install, not fun lining up oil pump shaft.
A 1/4" drive socket, long wobble 1/4 drive extension, then a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter, then a 3/8 ratchet is how I got to it-them on my 351M in ''77 F150 4x4. I dropped frame end of track bar, let axle hang by shocks, frame setting on solid stands ... but it may come out with track bar in place?

i have the bolts out of the pan, just have trouble getting the pan removed. took off the DS exhaust from the manifold and still getting interference from the front axle (4x4). I'll try jacking up the frame, letting the front suspension droop and see what clearance I have then.
Try jacking it up a bit, jack stand the frame rails at the lowest point of the frame. Like right behind the radius arm brackets then, jack the axle just enough to take the tires off to get more droop without jacking the complete truck way up in the sky.
