Hi all.
i have i 78f150 ranfer. it is a short box with a 460 in it.
The moter is out of a 76 couger xr7. i was wondering if there is a difference between the car moter and the tuck moter.
also about how many horse in the couger xr7 engine?
My Motors Manual jumps right over the 1976 model year for Mercury but it shows 202 Hp for 1975 and 197 HP for 1977...so I guess your right at 200 HP for the 460. Truck 460's come with a better rod that has a broached bolt area with a football shaped head on the rod bolt. They also generally have a rear-sump pan rather than a front-sump for passenger cars.

In '75 the hp was 216, in '76 it was 202. In '77 the 460 was not an option. Note: these are Cougar specific numbers, not Mercury numbers. There is a few different HP ratings for the 460 car motor, depending on the application.
Horsepower: 202 at 3800 RPM
Torque: 356 lb.-ft. at 2200 RPM
That's what the 76 Mark IV that I have has. I'd like to at least double the HP with not too much work.
