79 Bronco w/400M

Hi all,

I have a 400M rebuilt with a larger cam (32-421-8) adjustable valve train, basically all new. I have about 300 miles on it. Currently, when the engine heats up (only when it is warm), there is ticking at the passenger side around the valves (upper). I was going to take the cover off and try to adjust the valve but wanted to get opinions on this. I am concerned that it is only after the engine heats up. I tried a thicker oil that went from 10w-30 to 15w-40, but it did nothing. The ticking is still there. Otherwise, the engine runs great no performance loss or anything like that. Net net is I am concerned the cam did not get broken in properly, or it did set correctly.

Thoughts?

All you can do is readjust the valves and hope it does not happen again and again
If the camshaft lobes start to wear, you will be adjusting the valves constantly until your engine develops a dead hole from no valve movement
You could check it with a dial indicator but it might be to soon to tell
Hope for the best
What brand of camshaft? new china cam or old stock USA?
Good luck

The positive stop rockers you used to have were foolproof
The adjustable pedestals like you and I have, can get out of adjustment (the adjusting nut backs off the screw in rocker stud)
Running solids myself, and after I get mine adjusted, I use 2 nuts on them as a lock.
