With an 86 and an 87 you'll be making friends with folks in two forums. There are similarities between the two generations but also significant differences. You might want to check in with the 87+ forum too. We do have some folks here that are familiar with them too.

The front tank was mess for sure. Cleaned them both up and off we go.

I think it would look cool with a nice clear coat finish.

Not much time or will power. Picked them both in a two week period. Both are farm yard rescues, the 3/4 ton is pretty solid. The 1/2 ton has been a little challenging but .seems to be running good after some $$$$$.

The 250 looks like a nice coat of fuzzy rust. Maybe someone started in on a prep to paint and then punted for some reason?

It’s all natural patina.

I'd be tempted to Fluid-Film the entire truck. A thin film would preserve what metal is left. Would likely darken the patina though. Maybe try a test area first if the patina is your thing. With Fluid-Film remember that less is more. Brush it on as thin as you can.

I don't like fads. Rusty patina is a fad

Black wheels are a fad

Boom boom stereos was a fad, hopefully it has gone.

Harley Davidson motorcycles was a fad, I think it is finally fading

Black smoking diesels are a fad, looks like the epa is taking care of that. People will not learn to stay under the radar will they?

Loud exhaust systems were always around, but wide open with no muffler at all is ridiculous. Cops are taking care of that also. Stay under the radar people.
