Hello all, i have searched and could not find something quite similar as my current issue.
I have a 1979 F100 ranger, when i got it every light except one rear marker worked (bad bulb) now the pass side blinker was dimmer than the left and the hazards blink fast and sorta dim.
Today i cleaned the pass side plug and bulb. Swapped bulbs and it seemed to get a bit better, also cleaned the positive and ground side of the battery which only seems to have one cable going to the engine and i have a single white wire going to black box next to the 3 pole that's literally just twisted together …
However after doing all this PLUS cleaning one side of my 4 pole (pos cable side) i no longer have a pass blinker or turn signal, also neither light will light up as a parking light. All other lights work as normal. Drivers side front blinks and hazards fine. Rears are fine.
Could it just be a bad socket that finally went out? Broken ground somwhere? would the TS switch/flasher single out one bulb? Are these lights even parking lights?
I am at a loss and I am trying to get it ready for inspection. Any help would be appreciated.
The best thing to do is find those wires to that light, get a testlight and clip the one lead to the ground on the battery, and then poke those two wires going to the light that is not lit. Make sure you have the turn on that side on, and the park lights are on too. In that mode one wire should be blinking and blink the testlight, the other wire should have power all the time and light the testlight constant. If this test passes, you know your wiring to the light is good, and there is something wrong at the socket.
You can get a testight like this one cheap at harbor freight.
