Ive heard that one can pick up a little extra go from advancing the timing on the 400? is this true? seccond question hahaha...how do i go about that? Im new to the game of working on my car but wanna get into it eventually get to the level of being able to rebuild a motor etc. I guess i gotta start with baby steps like this? My engine is pretty high milage, would it be to old now to be worriny about that?
the 400 is not a good engine to advance the timing on they all ready have a predetonation problem that causes big engine damage ask me i know 1st hand. your timing is already at 12 btdc if you add to that and you hear the ping turn it back down asap!!
Initial, centrifugal advance, rate of advance, total, vacuum advance and vacuum retard. If you don't know what all these terms mean you could get into trouble. Pinging, knocking, detonation, pre-ignition, what ever word you use, it's not always audible. http://www.reincarnation-automotive....ons_index.html
