Had a wierd thing happen the other night while I was driving home in the 2003 SD CC. About halfway home the all the lights that I could see( headlights and instrument lights) went real bright, and all the guages (not gage as ford spells it) went all the way over to max, then back to minimum, then slowly back to what appeared to be correct readings. Tha auto tranny temp guage took a while to come back up to where it was before the "event". I think it may be dampened to eliminate wide variations in temperature. Oil pressure, fuel level, engine temp, and speedo all returned to normal. The truck continued to run without any other sign that something had gone crazy. I was traveling down the highway at about 50 mph at the time this happened . I had fueled up at a Chevron station in Carson City and was headed east on highway 50. The problem occured in Silver Springs. When I got home I checked the trip odometer, which I had reset when I got fuel, and it indicated 26 miles. It should have showed somewhere about 60 miles...thats how far Carson City is from Fallon. The "event "also seems to have reset the trip odometer. Anybody have a clue as to what might cause this? Alternator glitch? I starts and runs fine, and everything I could think to check seems to be alright. Thanks...Ken.
definetly alternator problem. Check all the wires going to it for chafing, bad connection etc. If you find nothing I would have the alt removed and checked cause thats problem rarely ever happens at all and its not something you want to happen.
Just returned from talking to the service manager at Ford...he siad there will be no code unless the "check engine" light is on. At this point he said to just drive it and bring it in when it is not an intermittent problem...I hope it doesn't leave me stranded somewhere....cause I will be plenty mad!
P.S. Do you ever feel like clubbing a service manager with a claw hammer?

That some faults or dtc will not trigger the cel light
unless it happens enough times past the preset threshold within the pcm(computer) . (Or drive cycles)
There may not be a dtc set or there could be.
These will stay in the memory ,unless you disconnect the battery.
I have my own scanner so I've seen it happen first hand.
My sister has a 98' T-bird ( last year they were made ?)with the 4.6, it had an intermitent prob lights all on and entire dash would light up, only did it ocassionally, dealer said try to bring it in when it happens,,,,,finally they were close by when it lit-up, to the dealer they went ,, it was the voltage reg in the alternator,, replaced alternator, no more problem .
