Life has turned around a bit, and I finally have time to do a few things.
But... I'm in the Twin Cities and I want to go to Dayton -- actually Wright Patterson -- to see the aircraft on display. It's an 11 hour drive which is more than I want -- and it's a $400 + air fare. Seems to be one of those places they don't like to go to. Looks like I could see my sister in Texas for less than half of that.
Might as well ask -- anybody know of a way to get there for less? Yes, I CAN do it, but it would bother me a lot.
I'm within an hour or so drive of the AF museum and while the 11 hour drive would be tough the experience is well worth it, if you're interested in aircraft. Its honestly a two day visit anyway so maybe that'll factor into your final decision?
I found this page with travel options from Minneapolis to Dayton. If you're willing to take a bus it looks like the prices will be about 1/2 of what airfare will be, though about 50% longer than driving.
Thanks guys Looks like no magic bullets. Will probably just cough up sometime. Can't imagine why Dayton, OH isn't a bigger tourist attraction

I've got family and friends in Northeastern Ohio. If not for them I'd have no interest in being in Ohio.
It's not just Dayton.
I turned down a job in downtown Cleveland many years ago with Standard Oil. I was so sunburned that it hurt to wear clothes, flew to Cleveland, and interviewed. Spent the night in a hotel and flew back the next day, still miserable from the sunburn. On the drive to the airport it started sleeting and snowing and I realized that I had no interest in living there.
