What is that? Maybe it's what the high paid engineers forgot to use when designing features for us?

Unless it has changed, the programming for the remote keyless entry is built into the general electronics module (GEM). It may be possible to install an '02+ GEM into an '01 or earlier- but I wouldn't bank on it.

I don't trust mine at all anymore. Once last year I started my truck to let it warm up. The keys were in the ignition, doors unlocked. When I came back, all the doors were locked. I had to call a locksmith. I added a hide-a-key that day. This has happened 3 times now.
