radiator cowl
Bear with me, I just got my truck last Thursday and this is new to me. I have been a Chevy man my whole life but this absolutely original truck was too good to pass up and I am totally enjoying it. I intend to keep it stock, as much as possible, as you don't see many around. I would surely like power assist steering though being 60 and it drives like a truck. LOL
thanks all, Tom >again<
I dont think the 6 cylinder trucks came with a fan shroud. Check and make sure the fan is on correctly, make sure its pulling air in not pushing air out back thru the radiator. the fan blade should only be about an inch from the radiator.

1. Water pump
2. Fan belt tension
3. Thermostat
4. Clogged radiator
At this timeof the year, you should not be having overheating.

I have an original '55 that has been in the family since new. I don't remember a fan cowl ever being on the radiator. Putting one on might help but would only be a bandaid. You obviously have some problem that should be fixed. The suggestions listed by the other posts should guide you in the right direction.
As far as power steering, there seem to be some choices out there, but I would try different tires first.
Good luck!
