Odd Alternator operation
Odd Alternator operation
I tried to search my symptoms for my oddly acting alternator. I am assuming it's the alternator, anyways the battery light started coming on and I noticed my running voltage is around 12.2v (read off the batteries) 11.8 or 9 on Torque. Now for the different part, it stays low like that for maybe about 15 minutes while driving, then jumps up to the mid 13s. In that time the battery light flickers on and off occasionally. I have been fortunate I'm that I have had long drives and my battery voltage has been normal around 12.6v after turning the trucks off.
I typical would have the voltage in the low 12s right after starting and quickly jump to the high 13s after the glow plugs turn off.
I was traveling so I kind of had to leave it for a few days. But i did order a 170a alternator from ficmrepair.com.
I haven't really found any threads with these systems, so I kind of took a guess on the issue. FYI no codes and I have a Bocsh 140a with an overdrive pulley. Has anyone had this issue, and I'm I going in the right direction with the repair?

Your brushes in the alternator are either hanging up or are worn. The brushes are part of the voltage regulator assembly and it's easy to change the voltage regulator if you wanted to.
This may be the regulator replacement, but I haven't verified. Somewhere I have a video for replacing the voltage regulators in the Bosch and L-N.
